What is Life Without Food?!

It’s not an adventure until things start going wrong…

This is a quote from one of my favorite movies, 180 Degrees South, and I am finally starting to understand the meaning. You can plan adventure to an extent, but it’s always the unexpected things that you remember the most.

Last weekend we got a true taste of adventure on expedition. We visited Shieptiari, a small indigenous community about four hours down river. We had a great time with our planned activities: carving arrows out of wood, making a drink out of yucca, jewelry making with seeds and peccary teeth, a night hike, futbol, and a night around the campfire. We sang songs, heard stories, and ate some local dishes which included roasted yucca and grub! The children liked me! They don’t speak Spanish so it was fun hearing their tribal tongue. On our fourth day we started our journey home where we stopped at a hot spring and…

A Fresh Start

I have completely neglected my food blog and it’s about time to change that. As we know the beginning of a year is about making New Year’s resolutions. So with that being said, I am going to try my best to consistently cook food from fresh and local ingredients thus hoping to continue this food blog. This might be a bit of a challenge for me, because I definitely love to go out to eat. Eating is such an important part of my life and I always enjoy going out to restaurants with my friends. Furthermore, another goal of mine is to spend less money going out. Hopefully these ‘resolutions’ will help me be healthier, save money, and cook more often.

So after looking a lot at food porn daily and stumbling across various food blogs I found an awesome recipe from AFoodForThought.net.

This is Quinoa with Squash and Pomegranate

Quinoa

Ingredients: Quinoa, squash, pomegranate seeds, raisins, parsley, green onions, lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper

Sea of Love

I apologize for my absence here. Things have been a bit busy recently, because I just started two classes at SBCC and I began my photography internship. I am now working with an awesome local company called LoaTree and last night I helped out at their event. The event was wonderful and I met some really nice like-minded people. LoaTree is a local company here in Santa Barbara that, “works to inspire communities into positive social engagement by highlighting the best that society has to offer.” If you would like to find out more please look at their website: http://loatree.com/

So getting back to food! Here are couple things I made:

Fresh Corn and Tomato Salad

Ingredients: Corn, Tomatoes, Red Onion and Avocado with Cilantro, Smoked Sea Salt & Chipotle Red Pepper

Scrambled Eggs with Veggies and Spuds

Ingredients: Eggs, Mushrooms, Red Bell Peppers, Red Onion, Tomatoes with Avocado and Hot Sauce plus a side of Potatoes

I think it’s about time to go to the farmer’s market and find some fresh organic ingredients to cook with.

Thursday Lunch

One of the biggest perks about living back at home with my parents is that the fridge and pantry are fully stocked. I absolutely love it. This is what I made today for lunch:

Avocado, Tomato, Cucumber and Feta Cheese Salad

Vegetarian Taco

Sauteed Veggies include Red Onion, Zucchini, Bell Pepper and Spinach. Underneath the veggies are beans and then it is all topped with salsa and a bit of hot sauce.

I’m a Chocolate Girl

If you are reading this and know me then you are aware of the fact that I love chocolate. Chocolate trumps any other sweets. Hands down. I would even so far as to say I am addicted to chocolate. I cannot live without it.

So today I made classic chocolate chip cookies and gave it a little extra kick by adding in unsweetened cocoa.

Peace & Love,

Jenna
